Análise ao discurso de António Guterres

Discurso de abertura de António Guterres, Secretário-Geral das Nações Unidas, sobre a reunião de alto nível para comemorar o septuagésimo quinto aniversário das Nações Unidas - Assembleia Geral, 3.ª reunião plenária, 75.ª sessão.

António Guterres, Secretário-Geral das Nações Unidas, inicia o seu discurso com a abordagem dos ideais das Nações Unidas (paz, justiça, igualdade e dignidade), fazendo também referência ao longo caminho percorrido até à criação do que conhecemos hoje como Organização das Nações Unidas. Não deixa de enaltecer todos os objetivos alcançados pela organização, principalmente no que diz respeito às questões climáticas, direitos humanos, tratados de paz e peacekeeping, erradicação de doenças, entre muitos outros. Contudo, confessa que ainda há muito por alcançar, enfatizando, entre outras questões, a problemática da desigualdade de género. Afirma que a atual pandemia de COVID-19 veio revelar as fragilidades do mundo e que só há um caminho possível para a resolução das mesmas: a cooperação internacional, não negando os desafios crescentes da mesma. De facto, reforçar o multilateralismo é o grande objetivo de Guterres, declarando que este é inevitável num mundo que se encontra mais interligado do que nunca. Salienta ainda que a COVID-19 tornou a solidariedade um assunto muito mais urgente e que a Organização das Nações Unidas é considerada, por nós, a solução para melhorar o mundo, combatendo todos os medos do futuro, nomeadamente a pobreza, desigualdade, corrupção, crise climática e muito mais. Por essa razão, é necessário haver cooperação entre todos os estados-membros da organização. No final do discurso, agradece a todos os envolvidos pela dedicação no que concerne à implementação dos ideais das Nações Unidas, terminando com um apelo ao público, designadamente o de reunir esforços para a concretização de todos os objetivos referidos. Estamos perante um discurso extremamente claro e fácil de entender, que nos inspira e motiva. Um discurso que, claramente, tem como objetivo mobilizar os cidadãos do mundo a fazer os possíveis para tornar estes objetivos um pouco mais alcançáveis de dia para dia. O uso do recurso expressivo da repetição, designadamente da palavra “nós”, mostra-nos, inquestionavelmente, como nesta grande aldeia global um problema não pode ser resolvido por um só e tem que contar com uma cooperação multilateral, de forma a melhorar e oferecer um mundo mais igualitário, com menos pobreza e corrupção, a futuras gerações.

Opening remarks by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations on the High-level meeting to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations - General Assembly, 3rd plenary meeting, 75th session.

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, begins his speech addressing the United Nations ideals (peace, justice, equality and dignity), also referring to the long path until the creation of what we know today as the United Nations Organization. He doesn’t fail to praise all the goals achieved by the organization, mainly with regard to climate issues, human rights, peace treaties and peacekeeping, eradication of diseases, among many others. However, he confesses that there is still much to be achieved and emphasizes, among others, the issue of gender inequality. He states that the current COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the world's weaknesses and that there is only one possible way to solve them: international cooperation, not denying the growing challenges of it. In fact, strengthening multilateralism is Guterres' main goal, declaring that it is inevitable in a world that is more interconnected than ever. He stresses further that COVID-19 has made solidarity a much more urgent matter and that the United Nations is considered by us the solution to improve the world, combating all fears of the future – poverty, inequality, corruption, climate crisis and more. For this reason, cooperation between all member states of the organization is needed. At the end of the speech, he thanks all of those involved for their dedication regarding the implementation of the United Nations ideals, ending with an appeal to the public – to combine our efforts to achieve all the referred goals. This speech is extremely clear and easy to understand and it definitely inspires and motivates us. This is a speech that clearly aims to mobilize the citizens of the world to do everything they can to make these goals a little more achievable day by day. The use of the expressive resource of repetition, namely the word “we”, shows us, undoubtedly, how in this great global village a problem cannot be solved by only one and must rely on multilateral cooperation in order to improve and offer a much more egalitarian world, with less poverty and corruption, to future generations.
